I can’t even remember the last time I paid for cable. For years, I got by on a rotating roster of Hulu, Vudu, Amazon Prime, and, of course, Netflix. And yet, if I’m being totally honest, there was always still something … missing. Once I had binged my fill of B-list movies and watched all the true crime docs I could handle, I found myself longing for the standby TV shows I adored from networks that simply weren’t included in my regularly scheduled lineup. To my rescue? Sling TV—a streaming service for live TV.

As part of its Black Friday 2020 offerings, Sling is offering new customers an entire month of free viewing when you purchase one month of the entry-level Orange or mid-level Blue plans (both $30 per month) through Thursday, December 3. Note that you’ll need to enter your email address and credit card info to get the deal, so you’ll want to cancel before the two months have ended to avoid automatically being charged a monthly subscription fee thereafter.
These memberships will give you access to between 30 to 50+ channels, depending on your selection, including Lifetime, E!, Bravo, Cartoon Network, the Travel Channel, the Discovery Channel and more. You’ll also get free Cloud DVR with your package. While the Orange membership has less channels, it offers access to premium options, such as ESPN and Disney.

This is the best deal we’ve seen from the company, which regularly offers new customers a free three-day trial, in months. I actually signed up for the free trial myself back in April and am now a loyal customer. After being reunited with my beloved Lifetime movies and Housewives episodes once more, I simply couldn’t give them up!
While my experience has been similar to that of Senior Staff Writer Michael Desjardin, who gave Sling a go for a year and found that it it can struggle a bit with the Amazon Fire Stick ($39.99), lowering resolution or dropping the connection at times, he noted that it worked brilliantly on TVs with built-in streaming capabilities (think a Roku TV or an Nvidia Shield ($149.99). As a Fire Stick user myself, it hasn’t been enough of an issue for me to undermine my overall viewing experience but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re considering a more long-term commitment.
Sling’s interface is streamlined and easy to use, though it does take some time to get used to. Plus, you’ll have a full two months to test it out with your own particular device thanks to this deal.
If anyone needs me, I’ll just be over here, binge-watching Bravo…
