Experts give 2020 New Years health resolutions tips – KEYT

If you’re like most people one of your 2020 New Years’ resolutions is to be healthier.
We spoke with nutritional experts and a fitness trainer on their top tips to follow for a healthier new year.

“What I would recommend for a healthier 2020 is one, take care of your gut health. Two, make sure to set realistic goals. Three, exercise,” said the owner of Complete Nutrition and Fitness, Susie Duane.

Nutritionist say all health stems from your gut.

“70% of our immune system comes from our gut health. And our gut health is basically the cells that make up the lining of our intestines,” explained Duane.

That lining is where we absorb all our nutrients. And if it’s faulty then it’s where we absorb unwanted toxins as well.

“So that’s where your immune systems comes from so in order to take care of that we have to make sure we avoid processed and fatty foods,” said Duane.

Complete Nutrition and Fitness also says to eat good amounts of fiber. And of course, eat your veggies.

“And you really want to take Pro-biotics,” recommended Duane.

Probiotics are the good bacteria in our guts.
Other nutritionists say avoid inflammatory foods.

“The biggest things to avoid or cut out are sugar, gluten, and all grains. Alcohol and dairy,” suggested Nutritionist Stephanie Olsen.

She and other experts say that dairy is one of the hardest foods for our bodies to digest.

“There is a protein in dairy called casein. A lot of people have difficulty digesting it, just like gluten,” said Olsen.

She recommends dairy substitutes like nut milks.

And for fitness, expert Marc Gatson says no matter what keep moving!

“Get some type of movement in whether you have malnutrition, over nutrition. Get some type of movement in because the most important muscle in the body is the heart,” said fitness trainer and owner of Custom Workouts gym, Marc Gatson.

He recommends getting health professionals to get educated on your specific needs.

“Whether it’s lifting weights, whether it’s walking to the park and back. Whether it’s just being in your living room doing sits up, doing push-ups and doing squats – you must keep moving,” said Gatson.

Another top tip recommend is to make sure you drink plenty of water.
This may seem like common sense but with our busy lifestyles, many of us don’t do it enough.
