New exhibit in Delray Beach

There’s a lot of wisdom in the idea that we, the human race, have to learn from our past to make for a better future. But, what if the perspective on our history is skewed by those who wrote it? The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in Delray Beach explores this idea with a new exhibit titled “Sankofa: For the Record,” based on the Akan people’s “Sankofa” principle — looking to the past and taking what’s useful to move forward. The show features artworks, illustrations and writings that bring the idea to life — don’t miss it!

“Sankofa: For the Record”: Now through Aug. 17. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $10. Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, 170 NW 5th Ave., Delray Beach. Info: 561-279-8883 or www.spadymuseum.com

Sheba the Mississippi Queen and the Bluesmen: 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $20. Arts Garage, 94 NE Second Ave., Delray Beach. Info: 561-450-6357 or www.artsgarage.org
